What I Love Wednesday...Vaca's, Sun, Jamaica, Turquoise Waters....

Thanks to a Junior League Auction at this past years Winter Ball held at The Pierre, my boyfriend and I won (for a very undervalued price) a 5 night vacation at the Half Moon Rock Resort in Montego Bay, Jamaica. I have been dying to go to Jamaica for a while, having never been and for some reason my boyfriend was adamant about us not going....but the price was right and we booked our trip for labor day.

Ive been to several exotic beach locations and must say, Jamaica's waters may be the most beautiful of all.

view driving from the hotel to the property (only about 20 minutes, but not an accurate preview of what the hotel has in store)

Below:
The lobby in all its glory- and the will that Jackie Kennedy wrote on Half Moon Rock Stationary

The boy standing in front of our humble abode for the week- (upper right)- we had a "Hibiscus Suite" which overlooked the ocean

Yours truly staring out into the water- beautiful.!

Wild for on Wednesday...Teux Deux

I am pretty sure I have mentioned more times than I have posted that I am terribly OCD. Last week I posted about two new discoveries that have made my life more efficient and today I am going to highlight yet another discovery, an additional app for $2.99 that has totally changed my world- Teuxdeux.com.

Teux Deux as described on the site is " is a simple, designy to-do app... If you like making to-do lists, you will love TeuxDeux. The idea was to build a bare-bones, but visually compelling and highly usable to-do app: Use the free browser-based TeuxDeux at work/home and then take your to-dos on the road with the iPhone app."

Below I have screen shotted what the Teux Deux checklist looks like on my computer- it has a very similar interface on the iphone app and is equally easy to use on your iphone as at your computer- genius! When I am at my computer I keep my Teux Deux list open in a new tab next to my gmail- there is even a really nifty column for "Someday" which as you can see below is filled with restaurants in NYC I am looking to check out soon.

The app is $2.99 and worth EVERY PENNY. Unfortunately, for those of you who may not be iphone users yet - this app may not be suited for you, but you can still create an account!

PS. How cute is the name - To DO but in french. I love.

What I love Wednesday...Doxie + Deja Vu

As many of us bloggers are - I too am a huge hoarder of magazines and even worse- a huge hoarder of all the pages I rip out of magazines that I find inspirational. I have been doing this for about 3 years now and since I subscribe to too many magazines you can just imagine the stacks of "rip outs" that I have accumulated.

Additionally, being the OCD person I am, I like to be perfectly organized and thus my apple computer is my best friend. It therefore naturally follows that I like everything to be stored on my computer (not on the hardrive but in a cloud- Dropbox is my preferred cloud application in case you are wondering!)- including all types of documents I receive in the mail (a paperless world is my dream).

While I once tried scanning everything with my printer- my scanner was too slow and the process was too painful, and so the search began for a more efficient way of storing all the papers I had accumulated.

After intense research and even some wasted money on useless equipment (shame on you Brookstone- your handheld scanner was the least user friendly piece of technology of the decade) I have finally figured it out- the solution is simple- DOXIE.

I purchased the "cheaper" version for $149 from Amazon.com without realizing that if you purchase directly from Doxie.com students receive a $30 discount.

Buy me here and your world will change
Regardless- I could not be happier. It took about 5 minutes to set up my Doxie and once I accomplished this easy task,I began to scan away. Each scan takes only a few seconds and the quality is perfect. Doxie has even partnered with various cloud apps such as googledocs and CloudApp making it even easier to ensure that all scanned items are stored safely.

While Doxie is great for 8 by 11 sized documents and can even scan smaller items such as business cards, I found this great app - Deja Vu to download for my iphone that allows me to snap a picture, organize it by writing a quick memo, and then storing it. So far I have found this incredibly useful for all the business cards I had accumulated, for snapping nail polishes (so that I can remember which colors I like!) and for snapping pics of items I like :)

I am feeling very accomplished and organized these days....and very open to hearing input on other items app to continue my quest for a paperless and organized world.

Makeup Monday...Cuticle Cream

Ive been a longtime fan of Aveda products (I am particularly obsessed with their hand cream (called hand relief- its non greasy and incredibly moisturizing- the only hand cream that gets me through NYC winters. I keep the 1.4 ouncer in every single handbag I own) but somehow failed to register that they also make an amazing cuticle cream.

Despite weekly mani's being an absolute "must-do" my cuticles seem to get dry regardless. I have quite possibly tried every cuticle oil/cream out there and had yet to be satisfied until last week, when I was trying out a new mani/pedi place that only offers Aveda products. My main problem is all the others I have tried are toooo oily and thus messy, but this Aveda one does the trick and for only $10 bucks its a no-brainer....

Buy me here!

What I love Wednesday...Amazon

I have a serious obsession with Amazon.com - I wish I was kidding but I am not. I think its perhaps the greatest website ever second only to maybe shopbop.com. I became obsessed with Amazon while in college when I realized I could buy textbooks (new and used!) for much cheaper than what they sold at the bookstore. This led to some serious scheming on my part, which I wont divulge.

As Amazon grew, so did the selection online. Amazon has essentially turned into an online Costco- but with way chicer goods. I have bought nearly everything possible from Amazon- for example my most recent 10 items-

  1. Trademark Games Full Size Premium Bocce Set with Easy Carry (for the Hamptons)
  2. Fred Cool Shooters Shot Glass Mold
  3. JET Flatback Crystal Rhinestones 144 SWAROVSKI 20ss (for a craft project I am super excited to share with y'all!)
  4. Domicilium Decoratus
  5. Fulcrum 30010-301 LED Battery-Operated Stick-On Tap Light, 3 Pack
  6. Bling Crystal White Bow Pearl Case Cover for Iphone 4 & 4s Made w/ Swarovski Elements
  7. Jewel Setter for Rhinestones
  8. Tully's Coffee French Roast, 24-Count K-Cup for Keurig Brewers
  9. 2 of KIND Minis Variety Pack, 12-Count
  10. Charmin Ultra Soft, Toilet Paper Mega Rolls, 6-Count (dont judge- the Duane Reade on the corner simply does not provide TP that satisfies the "softness" test.
By far my most favorite purchase of this recent list is #6- my new iphone case. I had been living on the wild side aka case-less for quite some time and had not even considered purchasing a case, but when I stumbled upon this artwork I knew it had to be mine. While the reactions have been mixed- one friend said "I thought you were kidding" and another said "thats the ugliest thing I have ever seen" some friends are so smitten they have one coming their way.  I dont really care what they think though, its just another testament to how wonderful Amazon.com is.

I bet you are jealous...

What I love Wednesday...BlogLovin

So finals are already starting to get the best of me- I have no idea how anyone manages to survive studying for the bar (8 weeks plus of straight studying followed by a gruesome 2-3 day exam- YIKES!), I have been studying for 10 days straight now, and am thoroughly exhausted. I needed a mental break so figured an update on the blog was overdue.

This post isn't incredibly creative BUT it is something I recently discovered and TOTALLY love. I am pretty sure I have mentioned this before but I am 100% OCD. While it may sound like a hindrance its actually a blessing- I am always organized, color coded, and neatly packed away. As part of my OCD personality, I am attracted to ANYTHING that improves my efficiency in organization-aka the Container Store. Along with Shopbop and Neimans,  it is one of my favorite places to shop.

Anyway, recently I discovered Bloglovin - essentially it compiles your blog roll on one easy site making it easier than ever to see the updates on my favorite blogs- pictures and all! For those of you who have been using Google Reader to achieve this task, Bloglovin is an absolute must for you- its way prettier!

As you can see in the image above- the right hand column lets you categorize your blogs- as you can see I have a few that still need to be categorized, but that will have to wait until after finals .

Check out BlogLovin and be sure to add the Brunette edit to your Bloglovin roll- I have even made it easy to do- with a Bloglovin button on my home page!

What I love Wednesday | She Reigns

I 100% have an addiction to clothes. Its been like this for as long as I can remember. So when I discovered online shopping - (I blame my venture to Vanderbilt for this, there was not a single Neimans or Nordstorm in site, so a girl had to improvise) I instantly found hours of my day disappearing as I spent glued to my screen trying to absorb all the clothes available online.

It naturally follows that, since I spend so many hours reading blogs, shopping online, trying to find the "perfect" item,  once in a while I stumble upon something really fabulous that has not hit the mainstream yet- which is exactly how I discovered SheReigns - a line of by far the CUTEST rainwear out there.

Now most of us probably associate Burberry as the iconic maker of the trench and other rainwear, but has anyone else been as disappointed with their rainwear as much as I have? To put it simply-  while I adore nearly ALL Burberry wintercoats, they just have not impressed me with their raincoats. Which is why I could not be happier to have found She Reigns.

I had the pleasure of meeting the two lovely founders and designers of She Reigns this past Sunday. While in the process of ordering my own coat, the Jenica style, Jenica (the daughter-in-law of the mother-in-law/ daughter-in-law dynamic duo (although they look like they could be sisters) and I got into a conversation about New York City and it turned out that the two of them were going to be in my city for a brief few days. We settled on meeting at Friend of the Farmer and somehow spent nearly 3 hours over 1 drink- we had a lot in common!

The duo is just as darling as their fashionable rainwear -see below for the current styles available (and more to come soon!)....

What I love Wednesday....H.Bloom

In my very first "What I love Wednesday" Post, I mentioned that Peonies are my favorite flowers. And, while an exquisite Peony arrangement is always welcome in my home, I am open to arrangements of all shapes/sizes/and colors- with only one condition- that they be spectacular. I am a big believer in the gift of flowers and even more so that a home's decor is never complete without a floral arrangement. For this reason, I began a subscription to H. Bloom.
Living in NYC, nothing is cheap- and the worst markup really is on flowers.  My poor boyfriend is the greatest victim to this injustice- one year a very reputable florist sent the wrong arrangement for my birthday and I knew immediately that they had tried to pull a fast one (after several phone calls, they sheepishly admitted that they had indeed sent an arrangement that was valued at $100 less than what my boyfriend had paid). Another year, for Valentines day, another reputable florist sent flowers that were already wilting. At that point, I politely told the boy, that his efforts were greatly appreciated and it was not his fault, but I was through with being disappointed by overpriced and underperforming arrangements...until I discovered H.Bloom.

I stumbled upon H. Bloom, how I dont even remember, but I was immediately attracted by their business model which provides for reasonably priced and beautiful arrangement. Because H. Bloom is not your typical florist --> they dont have shops which you can peruse through, and all arrangements are made only once an arrangement has been pre-purchased, their overhead is minimal compared to other florists and this economic efficiency is reflected in their price. But unlike other florists, whose lower prices are reflected in the quality, H.Bloom is always spectacular. My favorite is the contemporary collection (the website only shows a fraction of what they deliver) and the $48 I spend (which includes delivery) is beyond worth it!

Makeup...on Monday

Happy Monday - while I originally promised Mondays would be "Monochramatic" the girly girl in me just really feels like talking about makeup (likely because I took full advantage of the 15% coupon www.sephora.com was offering and stocked up on plenty of goodies).

I love makeup. I think its pretty safe to say the only time I do not wear makeup is when I go to bed (with the exception of an occasional late night Friday/Saturday). But of all the many beauty products available to consumers, its mascara that really piques my interest. For some reason I am never 100% convinced I am using the best mascara, and I am all about using the best (not necessarily the most expensive).

Sometime in high school I discovered that the best mascara out there was Trish McEvoy, yet for some reason every 3 months or so I begin the hunt for a new and better mascara, only to return back to this one.

But this past weekend, after talking to a Sephora Associate, I figured I would give this new YSL Mascara a go- and was pleasantly surprised!

YSL- Shocking
And I must say. I am pretty impressed- BUT its not a total replacement for my beloved Trish mascara. What is so great about the Trish Mascara is the wand- its so thin that it manages to grab and detangle every single lash- pulling it forward and coating it with the perfect amount of mascara. By using the Trish Mascara first, followed by the YSL mascara I found that the YSL brush curled and added more volume- but the YSL mascara alone did not separate and distinguish each lash individually like the Trish one does- so my solution- keep both and use both!

Other mascaras I have tried in the past include: MAC (nothing special in my opinion, Dior (too clumpy), Fresh (not bad- but again, the brush failed to separate my lashes individually, causing clumps),  Estee Lauder (this was so long ago I cannot even remember why it wasn't the "one"), and more recently the Clinique bottom lash mascara (which is fine- but Trish does an EVEN better job of elongating your bottom lashes and catching each one!) and of course the Givenchy Mascara- which I was so excited about and returned immediately after one use, and last (I think!) Benefit- this is the only mascara I have found thus far, that has a wand that matches the ability of Trish- unfortunately though, the mascara really dried out my lashes and made my eyes itch a bit- not worth it.

So my question for you is what mascara do you use and what do you like about it?

What I love Wednesday...Wrap Bracelets by Farrah Karina

My senior year of college, all my friends began wearing the now infamous Chan Luu wrap bracelets. I definitely loved the wrap style of the bracelet, but it just lacked the glam I was looking for in my everyday jewelry. My dear friend from Palm Beach, Farrah Kisel, just launched her own line of wrap bracelets and other jewelry, and the line is definitely something I am loving these days. Besides that these wraps have the perfect amount of sparkle and glam to them, they are very reasonably priced! Ive been wearing my white "Cali" Wrap for about 3 weeks now and 3 friends have already decided its a must need for their closet as well and purchased one for themselves. I loved my white one so much, I purchased a second- the blue "Cali" wrap.

White "Cali" Wrap $60

My blue "Cali" Wrap
Love the peace sign!

Turquoise "Hippie" Wrap $60
I dont have this in my collection yet...but I need it

What I love...Wednesday

Since this blog is rather new....I figured todays post can be sort of an introduction...of the things I love in general, a "get to know me...DB" post. Now in no order of preference here goes my list (I have limited the selection to 6).

  • Aveda | Hand Relief | $20
    • this lotion is the absolute best and I have tried many lotions. It comes in a travel size and I purchase multiple and slip them into all my purses.

  • The Bar Method | I go to the one in Soho- $150 for a month unlimited (new clients only)!!
    • I used to live in Miami, and while I hated running- running along the ocean is a totally different story so I didnt mind it. But when I moved to NYC, running was out of the question. Originally I picked up Bikram but found that the 1.5 hour class which absolutely requires a shower afterwards was way too time consuming...and then I found bar method. I started in January of 2011 and it has been life changing. I lost 10lbs (and have managed to keep them off) and am in the best shape of my life. I am obsessed and my friends are slowly catching on.

  • Costume Jewelry | Oscar De La Renta | $395
    • I love costume jewelry. BUT especially Oscar De La Renta. It may not be the most budget friendly but it is worth every penny. His pieces are stunning, look way more expensive than they are and can be worn casually or on an evening out.

  • Gypsy- my almost year old puppy (her birthday is April 7th)
    • Gypsy is a shmorkie- shitzu/yorkie/maltese mix and while she only ways 7lb 6ounces, her personality is larger than life

  • Jordan-my boyfriend...of 2+ years, we arnt sure how long its been over 2 years under 4 years
    • this picture was taken earlier this month at the New York Junior League Winter Ball

  • PEONIES- Pink!
    • I love peonies, the pinker the better.

Welcome- The Royalton | NYC

Being as OCD and as absolutely particular as I am, its taken quite some time to get this blog looking exactly as I please. Thank god for the fabulous Danielle Moss who patiently listened as I changed my mind on almost a daily basis. I am simply delighted with how the blog looks and staring at the pretty pink and sparkles is just motivation enough.

As a current law student (with no ambition to practice law- I am actually starting classes towards an interior design degree next week and am beyond excited!) this blog is an opportunity to collect my findings (I am an obsessive internet peruser and am constantly stumbling upon fabulous finds...) and organize everything I have discovered/want/lust/enjoy/buy ETC. This blog will be focused on everything that is aesthetically pleasing. Hope you enjoy.

For those of you living in NY, you already know that the weather  had been turning into spring, but we seem to have reverted back to winter...and Ive caught a nasty bug in the meantime...a perfect excuse to hide-away in this sexy bar/lounge (although in my current state I am not sure if I should be leaving the house at all, so as not to infect anyone else, so please someone go for me!)

Located in the midtown area (44th between 5th and 6th), The Royalton is another Ian Schrager Hotel, and as I already expressed in my Rose Bar post- (see below to freshen your memory), I am quite a fan of anything he does. The hotel lobby was originally decorated by Philippe Starck but when it was redone in 2007 Shrager hired Roman & Williams. In my opinion, this is by far the sexiest hotel lobby I have seen. I absolutely love the blue and brown color combination mixed in with bold brass accents.
